I'm using 7.11 standard edition.

I keep a copy of Biblioscape on my work and on my home computer. 

If I create a new category on one computer, and then export references that use that category to a Biblioscape taggged file, and then import them to the other computer, the new categories don't show up on the second computer.  I examine the tagged file and the categories are there.

The categories are stored in its own table. You can go to categories module and export categories.
