Categories: Suggestions

1. Would it be possible to display the number of records in a category next to each category name in the Categories tab? Would be useful to know how many records are in a category and to monitor add/remove/move operations. It would be best if notes and references were displayed as separate numbers.

2. Currently, it is necessary to double-click to show the content of a category. May I suggest using buttons next to each category name? We could have two buttons: green – to display the category contents and red – not to display category contents. Then I would like to be able to select to display more than one category in the tab view and, simultaneously, to prevent some categories from displaying. This would allow for quick and intuitive, visual Boolean operations.

Given the non-exclusive nature of categories this would be a great help and a logical extension of current functionality.

1. If you click the "Count" button, the number of records under each category will be shown. It is calculated separately for each module.

2. How about a single click to open a category. Holding down Ctrl key to select more and apply the "OR" operator? Others have suggested single click to open as well. Thanks.

1. I see, thanks. This is fine. Automatic updating would be more convenient but a performance hit too, I guess – so – this is a good compromise. It would be nice though if Count could calculate and show how many references reside in Child folders. E.g. in this format: A(B). Where A is the number of references in the folder itself and B is the number of references in all child folders.

2. This sounds OK. But how about Alt click and a different highlight colour for the NOT operator?

1. Calculating sums for

1. Calculating sums for child items may only be needed occasionally. It will not be done by default. User can open the tree and see individual numbers for each child items.

2. Also NOT operator is rarely used. This has to be done with Advanced Search. You can then save it as a search folder.

Thanks,
