suggestions to do this -- please?

Hello,

I am yet to buy a permanent desktop for my tech to work on references. Until then, I wish to have her compile references for me from PubMed.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?db=PubMed

I have biblioscape v704 in my office computer. In what way can I ask her to compile and give me the references from PubMed so that I can put it into my biblioscape? Something like a text file? Can it done be periodically and can I overwrite in biblioscape?

Could somebody please help me out?

Thanks,

drb

Paul,

Could you please help me out? I have also sent you PM / email. I have the latest filter for MEdline, still it doesn't work.

drb, I got your email. I can import your sample record using the import filter at http://support.biblioscape.com/node/38. Are you sure the correct import filter is used?

PubMed search result can be

PubMed search result can be displayed as MEDLINE format. Then you can save it as plain text file and use Biblioscape import filter "NLM -- PubMed (Medline, etc.) MEDLARS" to do the importing.

Hello Paul,

I already tried that. I displayed the citation in medline, saved it as a txt, then imported using NLM -- PubMed (Medline, etc.) MEDLARS.

It says 0 references imported. Make sure your file is in a tagged format. If so, please check if the correct import filter was used.

I tried with one reference, then with several references in a text file, nothing worked.

I'm not sure I understand

I'm not sure I understand what you mean, and I don't have a PubMed account to find out what their format is. But if it's anything like PsycInfo, it should be possible to run and refine searches in the PubMed database and then save the results as a text file, which you can later import into Biblioscape using the PubMed import filter.

If by "overwrite" you mean importing references and making sure you have no duplicates, there is a function for this. You can either specify to check for duplicates during import, or you can check for duplicates in an existing database from the main menu.

Hello Dennis,Where is the

Hello Dennis,

Where is the option to check for duplicates during import. I couldn't find.  the other method of checking for duplicates is risky (tools>utility>eliminate duplicates) because say I have a reference with a pdf attachment and I add anotther same reference but don't link to an attachment. Then by eliminating the duplicating, I might be removing original one wiht attachement (50% chance).

So checking for duplicate while importing is a good option. Please help me to find it.

Last time I tried it, the

Last time I tried it, the option to eliminate duplicates in the existing database didn't delete the duplicates outright, but flagged them. You can then check if they really are duplicates, and if so, which you want to keep. Don't be afraid to use it.

The check for duplicates during import is under the "Options" tab in the dialog box that opens when you call the "Import" command. There is a warning that this may be slow, but it's always worked well for me.
