Suggestions for Links

Paul, while you're tweaking the latest patch for Biblioscape, can I suggest the following?

I like the new interface for adding links between references. But there are a couple of things that I think could be done better:

1.) The dialog "add reserve link" should read "add reverse link".

2.) The window to add a link has the Reference ID in the window title bar. I think it would be more user-friendly to display the reference title instead.

3.) Double-clicking on a link to open the linked reference works well, but the window title for the linked reference is empty. Is this intended?

4.) Would it be possible to have the "reverse link relationship" menu automatically mirror what's under "link relationship" above?

Thanks,
Dennis

1. "v" and "s" switched

1. "v" and "s" switched their positions. Corrected. Thanks.

2. Good point. Will change in 7.02.

3. It is not intended. Will be added in 7.02.

4. Do you mean when forward link pick is changed from first pick to forth pick, the reverse pick should follow automatically? Another good point. Will try to add in 7.02.

Thank you for your suggestions.

Paul

Exactly

Paul,

To clarify: Your interpretation of point 4 is exactly what I meant. When the user changes the first box, for example, to "related", it would be convenient if the box for the reversed link could automatically also be set to "related".

Now I've noticed that you can edit the nature of link relationships manually (clicking on the icon to the right of the drop-down menu opens the editor), I hope this won't be incompatible with the suggestion.

When the files are edited,

When the files are edited, they have to be matched. If user reports problem, we will try to find other way to do this. For example, put both forward and backward links in one file like:

forward link 1=backward link 1

forward link 2=backward link 2

Then, it is unlikely to be messed up. What do you think?

Very good idea

Yes, I think that would work.
