New User - Folder List vs Tool Bar conflict

I just installed  the standard edition of Biblioscape 7 and I'm still taking a test drive around the sample provided.  If I click on any of the Tasks, Charts or Categories Folders, I get the error "module not included in Lite or Standard edition.  Please upgrade.  Huh?  No categories?  Isn't that part of the basic operation of the program?  I can live without "Charts" and I have an excellent lead pencil and paper so I can (somewhat reluctantly) live without "Tasks".  Thinking this might just be a limitation on the sample file, I started up a new project altogether.  Same thing.  Am I missing something here?

Actually, it's even stranger, on closer look.

Click Notes in the side panel Folder List and Notes appear with no error but the References panel appears.

Click Notes in the Tool Bar and the error  "Categories module is not included in Lite or Standard edition."

Click Tasks in the Folder List and get the error message.

Click Tasks in the Tool Bar and there's no error message but an empty Categories panel appears.

Click Categories in the Tool bar and there is the error message and "Tasks" appears.

The only way to get Categories to appear in the main display panel s to click "Old Folders" in the folder list.  Then it appears you can actually enter a new category.

But that's just one time around.  Try again and discover pushing tool bar button or selecting from the Folder list just seems to come up with totally random results.

I'm flamboozled.

There seems to be a complete disconnect between the folder list and the tool bar.

Of course, since Notes, Tasks, Charts and Categories may, indeed, not be included with this program, maybe I'm kicking a dead horse?

The categories module has

The categories module has two functions. First, it can be used for tagging records. This can be done by using the categories tab on the search pane in all modules. Second, it can be used to build topic map like structure. This is only available in Pro edition.

There is be an index corruption that caused the mis-behaviour. Please restart Biblioscape and go to "File | Database | Rebuild Database" to see if it can fix the problem.

Thanks,

Paul

Same problem

I'm having the same problem that CoraT had -- when I moved my v6 Lite database into v7 Std, I started getting error messages when I clicked on Categories, Tasks, Charts, etc., saying "(Categories) module is not included in Lite or Standard version, please upgrade." I tried what you suggested, having it rebuild the database, and it found a corruption of some sort, but the problem persists.

Suggestions?

Std and Lite users can not

Std and Lite users can not go to the categories module. But they can use the categories tab pane in other modules (references, notes, tasks, charts) for tagging records.

Huh? No categories module?

To quote CoraT above, "I'm flamboozled."

It's quite unseemly to me that you would make Categories such a prominent feature in this version 7 -- which was hard enough for people like me who liked v6 because of the flexibility of the folder function -- and then make it insanely difficult to use.

I'm beginning to realize that it's going to take me a LONG time to figure out this version.

When used for tagging, it is

When used for tagging, it is not hard at all. Just like sticking a label on a box, you create lots of labels (categories). Then just asssign them to a record. This tagging feature of categories are included in standard edition. The categories module includes features to create topic map like structures. That is in the Pro edition only.
