During import of the Biblioscape 6 database into Biblioscape 7, the Bsc 6 folders are converted into Categories which however don't show up under "Categories" but under the separate item "Old folders".
How can I integrate those "Old folders" into the new "Categories" tree?
(also see post http://support.biblioscape.com/node/670)
... and now having got and entered the V 7 registration (Standard edition), I am puzzled that those "Old folders", created under V 6 Standard edition, are no longer accessible in the V 7 Standard edition (Bsc sais "Categories module is not included in Lite or Standard Edition, please upgrade.")
I cannot understand why I should loose access to some of my data by just upgrading from V 6 to V 7.
OK, I could stay with V 6, but there are some bugfixes in V 7 which I really need.
You can have more than one
You can have more than one categories folder. If you want to have all your categories in one folder, it is also OK. You can rename "old folders" to another name you like.
The "old folders" category folder is there to keep all your "many-to-many" relationship between folders and references in v6 (in case there are some). So you don't loose any feature.
how
How do you do this renaming in the standard edition? I can't seem to find the commands to do this.
You can select a category
You can select a category item. Click it again, the selected category will be in edit mode. You can just type a new name.
I meant how do you change
I meant how do you change the name "old folders."
Alternatively, how do I move the individual categories under "old folders" to be under "categories"
You can change the folder
You can change the folder name by a singel click after selection to go into edit mode and then type. Or you can click right mouse button and select Properties. You can right click a category and open it. In future 7.x, we will add drag and drop to move categories between folders in categories module.
No. This isn't working in
No. This isn't working in the standard edition. In the references module, when I right click on the category, or the folder name in the drop down box, I don't get the option to select "Properties."
I can go into the categories module. If I ignore the warning that I must upgrade, I can the name of the folder, but not much else.
The drag and drop categories
The drag and drop categories from one folder to another will be implemented in version 7.12. You are right. You have to have the Pro edition to go to the categories module.
Standard v Pro edition?
Paul,
Sorry, you answered my question while I was writing this. Talk about good timing! :)

Categories should be available in Standard
I second the suggestion that categories should be available in the Standard Edition of Biblioscape. Older versions of Biblioscape (Standard) supported non-exclusive folders, which is a function now fulfilled by categories. This is fine, but it seems unfair then to remove category functionality from the Standard edition. This would mean that the Standard edition users have less functionality in V7 than previously!
The Pro or Librarian editions include features that many Biblioscape users don't need: tasks, charts, and library management. But the categories feature is different. This should be available to Standard users.
Dennis
Dennis, half of categories
Dennis, half of categories module is made available to all editions. You can add, edit, delete category using the "Categories" tab on other modules. The other half of categories module is for building topic map structure, that is only available in Pro edition. There is no feature loss compared to v6.
Paul, I have to agree with
Paul, I have to agree with Dennis that BS7 has removed some important functionality regarding many-to-many relationships. In BiblioSidekick users of Standard edition can now only show either all references or references contained in specific folders. Many-to-many relationships are now done with categories, but they cannot be used in BiblioSidekick with the Standard edition. This makes finding and citing references a cumbersome task, as it is necessary to constantly switch from one folder to another and back again.
Likewise, I think a Research Information Manager should allow users to simultaneously show all references AND notes under a specific category; now, users of Standard Edition can only show references OR notes, as the categories module is locked.
These two features should be included in the Standard edition; purchasing the Pro edition would be out of proportion, as I do not need elaborate Topic Map functionality, tasks or charts.
Lars
Lars, in 7.x we will add a
Lars, in 7.x we will add a categories combobox. You can easily see all the references in different categories. So the many-to-many relationship display is not removed in v7. We will add important new features first in the Pro edition. We will make the standard edition has about the same features as other bibliographic managers and have all the extra features in the Pro edition. Thanks.
