Once again, my apologies if this has been covered (I'm sorry I'm late to the alpha/beta testing party; I haven't properly absorbed all the excellent commentary earlier in this forum). I'm assuming that references can now only exist in one folder (there doesn't seem to be any "copy" facility any more, and I remember a discussion about this some months ago).
1. Am I right in inferring that when a database is converted from Biblioscape 6, references that were in more than one folder are not placed in a folder in the converted database? Certainly there seem to be a number of references in my converted database that don't show a folder in the Reference ID bit between the two panes in the main window. Is there a way of listing these "orphaned" references, so that they can be found homes? Say, for example, a Biblioscape-generated folder called "Orphans"?
2. Search folders differ in the sense that they do allow duplication (a reference can be in both a search folder and a normal folder). This is a bit confusing -- could a different icon be used for search folders, to emphasize that they are indeed a different kind of folder? I know that they have a magnifying glass icon to the right and the query appears in the status bar below, but a different colour for the icon might underline this crucial difference.
1. When converting old
1. When converting old databases, Biblioscape will duplicate the folder tree in a categories tree. The many-to-many relationship is then shifted from foldes-references to categories-references.
2. We tried using different icon for reference folder and search refernce folder. Then there will be 10 plus kinds of folders. It hurts your eyes. How about create a folder and then put all your search folders under it?
Thanks,
Paul
2. Yes, you certainly don't
2. Yes, you certainly don't want too many kinds of folder icons. Creating a folder and then putting the search folders in it is certainly one solution.
But what about, for search folders, using the same icon but in a different colour, for example blue? Here's my concern: It's easy to drag folders around the tree, which is a useful feature. If a search folder gets dragged among the normal folders, it will be difficult to see that it's a different kind of folder if it's the same colour.
Choosing a different color
Choosing a different color for search folder is a good idea. But the folder control we use make it hard to implement this or using a different icon. We may be able to do this in the future. Thanks.
Advanced Search
I have found that in Advanced search you can now querry for "Folder" is "blank or empty" and it will find those orphaned records. At least it worked for me.
