Biblioscape 7 second alpha release

Dear Biblioscape Users,

The second release of Biblioscape 7 alpha version has been made available at For a more detailed description of Biblioscape 7 alpha release, please go to

Installation: For the alpha release, we didn't package files inside a standard Windows installer. Instead, all required files are inside a self-extracting WinZip file. You can just run bsp7.exe and unzip it to an empty folder. To run it, double click the Biblioscape.exe file. To remove it, delete the Biblioscape folder.

History: Since the development is still in the alpha stage, we will not give a detailed bug fix list and minor feature improvements list. We will do that once version 7 goes to beta. This release fixed all the bugs reported at the beta forum (

Upgrade: If you have already installed the first alpha release, please delete the "Biblioscape 7 Beta" folder first before running the installation. In this second alpha release, there is a minor change in the database schema. You can no longer open the database created with the first alpha release. You have to do the upgrade conversion of version 5 and 6 databases again. Please read the Upgrade section at for the details.

Support: You are welcome to make suggestions and report bugs at the Biblioscape Beta forum ( We prefer you use the forum instead of email for bug reports and feature requests, so our communication can benefit others and provoke further feedbacks. Please post all issues with running alpha and beta releases at the Beta forum instead of other forums.

Cost for upgrade to categories function

Paul,The many to many relationally of Biblioscape 6 was one of its best and key features. I will no longer be able to have a record in several folders as a key way of tracking the same record in different places (e.g. folders for “review this,” a specific research project, class bibliographies.” Looks like those of us who recently bought the standard version of 6 because of the promise that 7 would soon be out will not be getting all the functionality we expected. I can understand why you might want to change the pricing of the features in the different packages but wonder if recent purchasers might get some sort of exception to whatever the new pricing arrangement will be.I can think of some work abounds like the dynamic folders but that is a bit of a let down when you bought a program for is many to many feature.

 Dr. Robert Masson

Robert, the many-to-many

Robert, the many-to-many relationship is shifted from folders to categories in version 7. This part of categories is available to all editions. Only the more advanced features of the categories module are not available to Lite and Std editions.

Connecting to linked records and notes

In the current alpha versions, the “links tabs” for records shows related records and notes in the preview pane, but clicking on the links does not bring up the related record or note (or jump to it).    Likewise, although in the view of a specific record one is able to click on a note in the “Note tabs view” and go to that that note, one cannot use the links tab view to go to notes or other records.    Obviously much of the utility of the links is lost if one cannot use them to jump to related records or notes. Is this a bug?

The double click to open

The double click to open link feature will be available in later alpha or beta releases. Thanks.
