I want to be able to just shoot an in text reference over to my document, like (author, date). When I "shoot formatted" I get a bibliography entry with more info than I want. When I "shoot temporary" I get what I want, but I have to then save the document, close it, then "format manuscript." Since I'm not using foot notes or endnotes, it seems like I should be able to just shoot the reference over in the proper format. Is there a way to do this?
There is a menu item called
There is a menu item called "Shoot formatted in-text citation" to do what you want. Since this is not used by most users, it is not in the default menu. You can add it by go to "Tools | Customize". Go to the "Command" tab. Select categories "Edit" on the left, then find the item "Shoot Formatted In-text Citation" and drag it to the menu "Edit | Shoot". You should know this approach takes more steps than using temporary citations. Because you have to shoot formatted reference for each citation. If you remove one citation later, you have to deleted the formatted reference. Unlike using temporary citation, you can not switch to another style easily.
