When the user clicks the Update button, no information is given. When one is on a slow connection (but not only) this is very problematic. Can you please implement:
1. On the click, Biblioscape reports the current version and the latest available version: the user is given a choice to cancel or update. If the user sees that there is a new version, they can download themselves if they choose, using acceleration.
2. Progress bar is shown during download. Another bar is shown during install.
Thank you for considering.
When the "Update" button is
When the "Update" button is clicked, Biblioscape does check the version of your installation against the latest and prompt you. This checking is fast. If you click Yes to update, the updating process is run in the background and not affecting your work. Only when the download is finished and need to replace the main executable, it will prompt you. If the updating process does not work properly and your version is between 9.0.2.0 and 9.0.3.2, please see my posting at http://support.biblioscape.com/node/2500. Thanks, Paul
Thank you Paul and the rest.
Thank you Paul and the rest. In my case, Biblioscape does not does not show the numbers of current and latest versions or the size of the download. It should be trivial to add to the download or not dialog? And the progress bar would also help, as already mentioned. Right now is the case in point, I am traveling and the connection here is very slow. The updating from 9.0.5.2 to 9.0.5.2 (which I think is the latest, currently) is yet to finish in 30min and I have no idea of its status.
After clicking Update, it
After clicking Update, it should give you a prompt in seconds. It will tell you if you have the latest release or ask you if you want to start downloading. Because Biblioscape main executable file size is very large. It is not a good idea to run update when you are on the road with slow connection. Can you try this when you are back? I don't know why it doesn't give you the prompt. We cannot report the progress since the downloading is done in a separte thread so your work is not interrupted. If you didn't even get the prompt, you are probably not even connected to the server.
My connection is back. I do
My connection is back. I do get the prompt but it simply says there is a newer version (cannot check exactly as I have the latest version by now). No version numbers...
If you have the latest
If you have the latest version, it will prompt you that you have the latest one. You can try this after you just updated.
Appreciate new update and update procedure
The update procedure is a great imporvement over BS 8. Also appreciate the changes introduced in 9.0.5.2. Thanks Paul. Happy New Year.
