I'm trying to install Biblioscape on a new computer. The WinZip self-extractor extracts the files from bsp6.exe, but then hangs with the "Setup" button greyed out. In other words, the Setup.exe doesn't execute. Any idea why? And where can I find the temporary files so that I can continue the installation manually?
Please put the bsp6.exe file
Please put the bsp6.exe file in an empty folder before running it. Since bsp6.exe is compressed with winzip, you can run winzip and go to "File | Open Archive" in WinZip and open bsp6.exe and unzip it to an empty folder. Thanks.
I've tried doing that, but
I've tried doing that, but the setup.exe won't execute. Nothing happens when I double-click on it, or try to execute it from Start > Run. It's very strange; I've tried two different Zip extractors, with the same result. I've done this on three separate machines, all WinXP SP2; it's quite reproducible. Has something been done to Windows in one of the recent updates that blocks the execution of some setup.exe files?
We used an very old
We used an very old installshield program to make the setup file. The setup file is a 16 bit application. For version 7, we will use a new program to create the setup file. For now, please see this link http://www.worldstart.com/tips/tips.php/1453
Paul -- I tried the
Paul -- I tried the suggestions on that link and the Microsoft one that it directs you to, but they don't help. I'm not actually getting an error message from the system of the kind that those pages talk about; I'm just not getting anything happening at all. Is there some kind of workaround for installing Biblioscape 6 (e.g. a combination of copying files and adding registry entries) that I can use until Biblioscape 7 is available?
Hugh, please download the
Hugh, please download the file at http://www.biblioscape.com/bsp6d.zip. You can then unzip it to an empty folder and run Biblioscape from there (like the old way).
Thanks, Paul -- that worked
Thanks, Paul -- that worked fine. As you say -- just like the old days :)
