I'm new to biblioscape and trying to import a reference from a web site (Library of Congress). What I want is to import the data as a normal book reference, what I get is a custom reference to the web page.
How can I import the book info into a book reference and not a reference to the web page?
Thanx!
If you use Biblioscape
If you use Biblioscape built-in browser, please click "capture as reference" button. If your use another browser, please save the page as plain text. Then go to "File | Import...". In both approaches, please make sure the correct import filter is used. There is an import filter for LOC.
Inconsistent at best
I am evaluating this product (along with some others) and at this point I assume I must be doing something wrong or the internet import feature is very poor.
I succeeded when I saved the internet record as text from the internet site and imported from that rather than the original HTML page (I tried import from clipboard and using the capture reference feature). BUT, when I tried two other books this way, it imported some data, but not all, namely no titles! SO one book worked well, two failed. Not a good track record.
Before I abandon this product I would really like to give it a chance. Any help would be appreciated!!!
More info?
Before anyone can help you, you need to provide more information about what you're trying to do and how. From your description of the problem, it sounds as if the import filter you're using has a problem picking up the Title field of the record.
This is not always Biblioscape's fault - sometimes the online databases themselves aren't consistent in the way they tag fields, and the import filter can't identify them. I've been having the same problem with PsycInfo.
The best way to get help is to post the relevant parts of the text file from which you're trying to import, specify the import filter you're using, and describe in detail what you're doing. Then other forum users will be able to play around with the problem and give you a solution.
