This question has to do with reference of the type Journal Article - Footnote. How is it possible to use Cited Pages and at the same time suppress Start/End Page? In cases I don't use Cited Pages the Start/End do the job, the way I want. But to have them both in my footnotes is a problem! I am wondering if I should exclude Start/End Page fields from my footnote style and just have Cited Page, but would there be a more functional option that makes it easy for B8 to use either one or the other?
The current
The current implementation requires you to enter cited pages in each temp citation if Cited Pages is included in the style. This does require extra work if the cited pages are already exist in your record like a Journal Article. One way to improve in this area is to instruct Biblioscape to use Start Page and End Page as cited pages when cited pages are not included in the temp citation. Then in the output style, you only need include Cited Pages. But I am wondering if this will cause a problem in other cases.
In the Humanities,
In the Humanities, particularly SBL style (Society of Biblical Literature), there is a need for footnote flexibility in several references like journal article, encyclopedia, article in a book, you get the picture. So I would request version 9 to offer a solution to this problem. The key is for Biblioscape to use the default Start/End Page for footnotes, except when Cited Pages is used. In this case there should be a feature to suppress Start/End page.
The workaround. 1) How to I instruct B8 to use Start Page and End Page as Cited Pages? 2) It seems that deleting Start/End Page from the footnote style is the only way out. A little time consuming using CitedPages for both purposes, but doable. Any further ideas?
I don't have a better
I don't have a better workaround for the current release. For future versions, Biblioscape should use Start Page and End Page data when Cited Pages are not provided, and vice versa.
That would be beautiful, so
That would be beautiful, so looking forward to it. BTW, when is version 9 going to be available, and would it implement the change by then?
We have not started working
We have not started working on Biblioscape 9. In the past, we always developed Biblioscape first then BiblioWeb. This time, BiblioWeb 9 was developed first. It will be followed by a better Word integration, then Biblioscape 9 at last.
