Global Edit for Notes?

Hi everyone,

I apologize if this question has an obvious solution. I've searched the manual and forums without success.

Is there a way to globally edit Note records in the same way as is possible for Reference records? If not, is there a way to Find and Replace within Notes records? Here's my scenario:

I'm using the composition module to outline my thesis, and plugging in notes as I go. It's wonderful to behold. But if I change my mind about which "note type" I want to use to represent an element of my work, so far I've been forced to open each entry and manually change the field value. I'm in the initial stages of porting my work into Biblioscape, but this wouldn't be feasible if I had a lot of notes in the system.

Thanks in advance!

Jay

PS I've found that changes made to record names, types, etc. don't normally appear until I've changed folders and come back, or entered a record and re-saved it. Is there a "universal redraw/refresh" feature anywhere?

There is no global edit

There is no global edit feature for the notes module. I think we need one in a future release. When you edit a note in the live preview pane, the changes are not refreshed in the list view. Only the references module has a Refresh command. We may add one for the notes module in the next major release. Thanks, Paul

Thanks for the reply, Paul.

Thanks for the reply, Paul. I was expecting this answer, because I looked pretty hard for the feature.

My guy feeling is that all record types should be accessible through a global edit feature -- although I can see how this could result in massive data loss in a worst-case scenario. Maybe you could prompt the user to back up their database before proceeding with global edits, just in case they incorrectly anticipate the results of their edits?

Thanks,

Jay
