I am running the latest patch, and have the followng problem consistently now:
1. I open Biblioscape and open a reference folder into which I want import a particular citation.
2. I export the citation from a website, using an external browser. An example is the EndNotes link on this page: http://www.pnas.org/citmgr?gca=pnas;106/35/14773
3. I then look in the target reference folder in Biblioscape (which was already open and had no pre-existing content), and it is still blank, and in the left panel it is shown to contain "0" records.
4. If I open another reference folder and then return to the target folder, the imported record is indeed listed and the left panel shows that the folder contains "1" record.
Can you please make a change so that Biblioscape updates the reference list display automatically and immediately?
.
Mysteriously, all of a sudden this morning the problem went away. I'm glad of that, but still wonder what caused it in the first place.
.
I have been having the above problem consistently again for the last several months, with no immediate updates to the list ever occurring.
Paul says below from a year ago that he couldn't replicate this error, but it's real. Let me know how I can help track down what is triggering this bug.
Larry, how big is your list?
Larry, how big is your list? To increase performance, if the list is over a certain number, Biblioscape will not refresh the list after import. This number is customizable in the "Tools | Options" window.

I have no idea. I have not been able to reproduce the bug.
i don't know
I have never tried this.
When I click on endnote (export) link on the first posting, firefox is asking me what to do with the file? Should I ask that to open in biblioscape? Any other steps involved?
If FireFox ask you how to
If FireFox ask you how to open the file, select Biblioscape and click OK.
.
You should click "Open," and the citation will automatically be imported into Biblioscape (regardless of whether Biblioscape is currently loaded or not).
One caution is that if you have multiple reference folders, be sure the folder where you want the reference is currently open or (if Biblioscape is not loaded) that it was the most recently opened folder, so the citation won't get buried somewhere where you can't find it easily.
Alternatively, you can save the citation to disk and import it manually later; however, no need to go to that trouble.
If you are in a folder, the
If you are in a folder, the new reference will be added and the list updated. The project tree is only updated after you click a project item. Biblioscape cannot update the counter automatically because you can be in a smart collection and the new reference is added to a folder.
.
But the list is not being updated either. I have to open another folder and then return to the one I imported to, in order to see the imported reference. The reference is there, is just isn't showing on screen until I do that.
The list is updated for me.
The list is updated for me. Are you in a folder or collection?. It won't update if you are in a collection.
.
It is a folder and not a collection, and the import does occur but just doen't appear until I leave and return to the folder.
I just made a new test subfolder, assured that it is a folder and not a collection, and tested imports from several journals in both EndNote and RIS formats. I had the same problem with every import. I also tested this in an older folder with the same results, so the newness of the folder is not an issue.
Definitely a problem either with refreshing the screen or with refreshing the buffer that goes to the screen. I don't recall this happening until the latest patch (dated 9/21 on the webpage, but bearing file date of 9/10).
--- Updated Sept. 30 ---
Also, I am having the similar problem if I move a record from one folder to another. The record continues to appear in the open folder even after I have moved the record, and it does not disappear until I go to another folder and then return to the original folder.
Biblioscape will not refresh
Biblioscape will not refresh the list if there are too many records there. If you go to "Tools | Options" window, you can change that number on the "General Display" tab.
.
But I am having this trouble even if there are no records in the folder. And until recently (probably when I installed the latest patch) I had never had this problem, even in folders with several tens of references.
On Tools | Options / General Display, "Read Only Zoom" was set to 100. Is that the parameter you were referring to?
I was refering to "Refresh
I was refering to "Refresh reference list if records less than" combobox. But if you have this problem with an empty folder, changing this setting won't help. Is there anyone else can reproduce this bug? Thanks, Paul
.
One further observation. This is not a simple problem where a screen refresh is needed, because if I open one of the references in the folder and then close the reference (i.e. I return to the reference list), the newly imported reference is still not listed. To get it to appear I need to open another folder and then return to the orginal folder.
