Among categories, I can rename only the "category containers," but not the listed categories within them. When I double-click a category to rename it (as suggested in other messages in this forum), it looks like that should work; however as soon as I type a character either the rename box closes or (if another category exists whose name begins with that letter) another category becomes highlighted.
Also, if I right-click on a category container, there is a "rename" option there; however for a listed category the right-click menu does not have that option.
Big problem for a reorganization of my categories, which I am trying to do now. It seems the necessary function has become disabled in 8.x.
To rename a category, you
To rename a category, you can click the category item once, it will go to the edit mode, you can then rename it.

Paul, big troubles with renaming categories again today.
When I reported success in my reply yesterday, that was category rename that I did in the righthand pane, and that still works today.
However, if I do the rename (by the method you suggested) in the CENTER PANE, things go Kaflooey. If I highlight and delete the existing name, the next character I type appears in the edit box. However, when I type the second character, either of two things happen:
a) If I am lucky, another category's name begins with that second character, and the cursor goes to that name (i.e. highlights it).
b) If I am unlucky, no other category names begin with that character. The category I was just renaming vanishes, along with all of the links to it. If I inspect a reference that was linked to that category, it still shows a link to that category name. If I click that category name, Biblioscape gives the message "The requested record is not found in this database." I have just lost quite a few links to a category in this way, and the category is not in the deleted folder.
Definitely a bug here. Renaming works OK in the right pane but not the center pane.

Thanks!

I understand that what you said is how it is supposed to work. But as stated in my original message, the rename feature is non-functional.
You were not in the edit
You were not in the edit mode. If you double click, it will not go to the edit mode. You need to single click it. Then a black box is shown around the category. You are in the edit mode.

That is what I was doing, but I couldn't get it to work at all that day, even after closing and reloading Biblioscape. Today is is working.
Thanks, Paul.
