Problem with Associate with Biblioscape

Hi I'm just giving Biblioscape a trial (for my personal use), while trying to set the import to Biblioscape via Tools > Options > Import/Export > Associate with Biblioscape I get an error Box 'Failed to set data for "'. I am running Biblioscape from a non-admin user under Vista Ultimate, and wonder if this is a User Access problem; I also currently have EndNote XI so the extension is currently set to that. Have you come across this before, and do you have any suggestions for sorting it out. I guess that I could alter the extension link manually, but the button does make the process relatively simple particularly if I wish to use both Endnote & Biblioscape.

Associate Biblioscape in Windows 7

Biblioscape will not allow me to associate with Windows7. I am logged in as an administrator and the popup still says I need an administrator privilege. I upgraded my operating system recently and reinstalled biblioscape from XP.

Suggestions?

Which version of Biblioscape

Which version of Biblioscape you have installed?

Paul, I just downloaded the

Paul,

I just downloaded the patch. So 8.04. I'm still having the same problem. Won't let me associate even though I'm logged in as administrator.

Here is the way to get

Here is the way to get around this problem by manually create the association:

1. In the file manager, find a file with *.enw extension. If you cannot find one, open notepad type something and save it as a file. In file manager change the file's extension from *.txt to *.enw.

2. Select the file and click the right mouse button and select "Properties".

3. Under the section "Open with", click the button "Change". Then click the "Browse" button to find where Biblioscape.exe is installed. The default place is "C:\Biblioscape 8\Biblioscape.exe".

Then do the same thing for the *.ris extension.

*Update by Paul: The above instruction does not work. The trick is to turn off User Access Control (UAC) if you have Windows 7 or Vista. You can turn UAC off, click the "Associate with Biblioscape" button, and turn UAC back on. To learn how to turn off UAC, please google "disable user access control".

Paul, I'm having trouble

Paul,

I'm having trouble with this. 1. Since my computer was wiped and I am starting over I have no endnote files on this computer. So I have no option to choose the *.enw as a file oprtion. As I understand you correctly I just need to change the format of the file. I'm just having problems figuring out how to do this. A little bit more detailed suggestions would be helpful

If you don't have an *.enw

If you don't have an *.enw file, you can just use Windows notepad to create an *.txt file. For Windows 7, the file extension is hidden by default. Please the "Organize" button in the file manager and select Folder view options. Check off the box "Hide extension of known file type...". Now, the file you saved will be shown as *.txt. Single click that file and change the extension from *.txt to *.enw. You can then start from there.

Paul, I have done this and

Paul,

I have done this and those files will open in biblioscape. I still can't associate files, and when I try to direct export from ebsco databases to endnote like I used to be able too I get the "Do you want to save this file, or fiend a program online to open it?" Whereas it used to just direct export.

Suggestions?

Click "Find...", then find

Click "Find...", then find Biblioscape. If it is not listed, click the Browse button and select "C:\Biblioscape 8\Biblioscape.exe". The next time you do Direct Export, you won't be prompted.

Paul, I tried that and I get

Paul,

I tried that and I get the option to find, save, or cancel. I clicked on find: and then I get this window:

http://shell.windows.com/fileassoc/mimeassoc.asp?mime=application%2Fx%2D...

Windows doesn't appear to recognize the file extension. Nor do they give me an opportunity on my computer to browse for file

Suggestions?

Can you show me a screenshot

Can you show me a screenshot after you click the "Find" button?

Paul, The link above is the

Paul,

The link above is the screen shot. I get after I click the find button. It opens up that url.

Can you email me

Can you email me the necessary account info to access the ebsco database online? So I can test it. Let me know the steps to reproduce what you got. Thanks, Paul

Paul, Will do. I will write

Paul,

Will do. I will write out instructions how to access the database from outside my network and give you relevant user names and passwords.
Should see this within a day or two.

Jim

Jim, I found the solution.

Jim, I found the solution. For Windows 7 and Vista users, you have to turn off Windows User Access Control (UAC) temporarily before click the "Associate with Biblioscape" button. To find the procedure to turn off UAC, please google "disable user access control".

Paul, Works like a charm.

Paul,

Works like a charm. Thanks for the support

Jim

To set the association, you

To set the association, you need to have Windows admin privilege. To use Biblioscape, you don't need to have admin privilege.

Having problems associating with bibliscape in version 9

I just recently downloaded version 9. I an unable to import from either databases or from Biblioscape's internet browser. I turned off my UAC settings to associate an checked to see if Biblioscape is associated with an .enw file. The first or second doesn't solve the problem, although Biblioscape 9 show's its associated with the .enw file. Suggestions?

Thanks

Jim

Please let me know which

Please let me know which site have you tried? If you double click an *.enw file, what happens?

Currently, I'm having issues

Currently, I'm having issues just from google scholar within Biblioscape's browser. I'm trying to test it by downloading my dissertation from my website. You can type "James C. Bunker" and my dissertation is the second listing. I click import to bibtex and nothing happens other than the screen flashing. There is no record of this file in my last visited folder or any other folder for that matter. I also cannot import from Wiley Database. I saved the file in endnote (enw) and click on it. It does open up Biblioscape but it does not import.

Google scholar recently

Google scholar recently changed their output format. We are working on a fix. The fix will be in 9.0.6.0 release. It will be out in a couple of days. Let me know how did yo access the Wiley database. If you double click the *.enw file, nothing happens? Can you email me the *.enw file? Paul

Paul, Googlescholar is one

Paul,

Googlescholar is one part of the problem. However, I cannot DirectExport from multiple databases. Wiley, was one. I also tried to use an EBSCO bases database that I access through my university's library. In version 8 there were no problems with this. In short, I am unable to export from either the internet or database at the current time. I do not usually import from an *.enw file as a rule. I save an endnote file to my desktop and then tried to click on it to import it. It does open up Biblioscape and then it says "0 files have been imported."

Internet Explorer 9 and Firefox

Paul,

I tried direct export from Firefox and I am able to export successfully. This appears to be an Internet Explorer 9 related issue. I use multiple webbrowsers. I would still like to use this feature in Explorer if possible. I can use Firefox in the meantime when I'm searching. This hopefully helps you narrow this issue down.

Biblioscape version 9.0.6.0

Biblioscape version 9.0.6.0 is available. Please click the "Update" button to get it. Can you email me the way to access your data souce? So I can try it and see if I can solve the problem. Thanks, Paul
