citation material stays in the formatted manuscript when all I want is a number

This shows before and after formatting for citations for a manuscript. I am using Vancouver style, but APA gives the same problem. I had used Bib8 to create the database and initially format the manuscript and I got similar to what is below. So, I used Bib7 (same database but I checked it out with the database utility and it said there was no problem, so I assume that a Bib8 database is more or less the same as as Bib7 database) and got the stuff below.

What is going on. I need to get this to work right and am working to a deadline. I can't afford to have it fouled up now. I can copy the references over to RefManager and use that, but that defeats the purpose of using Biblioscape, which is a pretty good product, but it HAS to format.

Please help.

It seems that you have

It seems that you have turned on "display hidden text" in your word processor's options. Turn it off and you should see the correctly formatted document. (In MS Word 2007: Main Menu > Word Options > View > uncheck 'Hidden Text'; in MS Word 2003 I think it was in the tools menu > options > tab 'view').

You are right. Many thanks.

You are right. Many thanks. My confidence in Bib is restored.

Can you tell me: Are the databases for Bib8 and Bib7 the same; i.e. are they interchangeable?

There are changes. Once you

There are changes. Once you have converted your database to version 8, don't open it in version 7. Always back up your v7 database before opening it in v8.
