Father + Child Inheritance in Categories

I’m new to biblioscape, I just imported my endnote records and I’m having difficulties understanding the ‘Categories’ Module. I read all the online documentation I could find.

I have a simple tree category:
-America
--N. America (child categories)
--C. America
--S. America

Then three references tagged as follows:
1. Argentina (S.America)
2. Panama (C.America)
3. Canada (N.America)

All is well until I search the America category and it is empty. I was expecting that it would show the three references… Is there any way of making the main (Father) category inherit the references of its child categories?

Thank you,
Julian

Hi Paul, this is an old post. As I'm starting to use biblioscape again I ran into the same problem than last year. I'm unclear on how the tagging works in the parent-child relationship in biblioscape.

I have tagged a few records with a hierarchical category system. When I go to the categories module and select a child category I can see the tagged records on the right pane. However, when I select the parent category no records show up. I was expecting that when I select the parent category I would see all the records tagged by the child categories.

On your answer last year you said:
click the parent category and select "Search Plus Children" or "Search Plus Descendants" in the popup menu
I can't seem to get to this option. I tried right and left clicking and have looked all over the screen and through the help manual with no luck.

Thank you again.
Julian
