At http://support.biblioscape.com/node/405 under "File As" it is said that BS will automatically stamp new references but that users can edit it later if needed. Am I right that this only works when "Auto-update 'File As' field" is checked in Options > Database? However, if I do this (in BS 7.23), I am not able to modify the automatically created entry. After saving a reference BS always overwrites my own entry, even entries I have created before enabling auto-update (which is rather disturbing as I have used them in several papers to cite my references; fortunately, I have a backup of my library).
Auto-Update is a useful feature, but it should not overwrite user created content.
Thanks,
Lars

In earlier version, user can edit File_as field. This caused a problem. Because some users sometimes put text that cannot uniquely identify a reference. This field is also used to check for duplicate when user enter new reference. This makes the checking feature broke as well. In version 7, user can no longer edit this field (http://support.biblioscape.com/node/405). This change does create a problem for users of older version who has used this field as temp citation and has modified File As data. I am sorry about this. I think the new policy regarding File As field will prevent more problems in the future. Thanks.
