Before my computer crashed I was running BS 7.22 Standard on Windows XP.
1. What do I have to do to install BS 7.23 on my new computer with Windows Vista Business, preferably keeping the changes I have made to the database structure (dbsys), the reference type table (new ref types and changes to defaults), catagories etc.? I still have backups of my database and the BS installation folder. Is it enough to use my old database or do I have to replace some files in the new installation folder by older ones?
2. Do I need a new serial number?
3. On Vista, is it really necessary to install BS outside C:\Program Files\ (see http://support.biblioscape.com/installation )? Isn't it enough to run BS as administrator (Vista option in context menu after right click on program icon). I'd prefer to have all my programs in one place.
Thanks, Lars.
1. Transfering your
1. Transfering your installation from one computer to another is very easy with version 7. You just copy the Biblioscape folder from one PC to another. If you database folder resides in aonther place, copy that folder as well. Then on the new PC, run Biblioscape.exe and go to "File | Database | Open Database" to open the copied database.
2. You do need a new registration key.
3. Biblioscape needs to write to files under its sub-folders. Vista does not allow writing to files under "Program Files" sub-folders. If you can change the writing privilege, you can put it there.
